More than 100,000 households in the Czech Republic are due to benefit from faster and more reliable fibre connectivity thanks to a multi-million partnership bringing together Czech operator CETIN with Kontron Transportation, which will deliver broadband routers and modems from Slovenia’s Kontron, a sister company.
Slovenia’s Kontron has designed and manufactured the Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) and broadband access products that will be rolled out to the region over the next three years.

The agreement between CETIN and Kontron Transportation was signed at Kontron Transportation’s premises in Prague.
“I am very happy to sign this contract between us and CETIN, which provides us with a good opportunity to extend our existing activities and grow our presence in the telecommunications sector,” added Karel Feix, member of management at Kontron Transportation. “It is important for us to have such a prestigious customer as CETIN, which is the provider of the largest telecommunication network in Czechia.”
Residents will be able to enjoy a great user experience and are expected to have access data rates of up to 10 Gbps leveraging XGS-PON technology.
“We are very proud to have made a breakthrough in the European Union markets – now also in the Czech Republic, following the projects in Austria, Spain and Germany last year,” Svjetlana Kalaba, Executive Director Business Unit Broadband Slovenia’s Kontron. “I am confident that our XGS-PON Customer-Premises Equipment (CPE) and its advanced management with integrated speed test will easily and seamlessly be integrated into CETIN’s XGS-PON network.
