Kontron has announced that it will now manufacture its advanced 5G modules entirely in Europe, following a successful production scale-up. By producing in its own European facilities, the company demonstrates its commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards, shortening supply chains, promoting Europe’s technological sovereignty, and reducing CO2 emissions.
According to Kontron, it stands as the only provider worldwide to both develop and produce 5G modules exclusively in Europe. This approach not only strengthens its competitive position but also supports Europe’s technological independence. In addition, this initiative contributes to stabilising supply chains and generating new jobs across the continent.
Currently, approximately 80% of Kontron Group’s total value creation occurs within Europe. The close integration of development and production in Europe is a core element of the company’s strategy. The development of its 5G modules is carried out entirely at its Berlin facility. In a time when the security and origins of technology are under increasing scrutiny, in-house European production ensures adherence to the strictest regulations.
“Local development and production offer numerous advantages. Our customers benefit from the quality, speed, flexibility and reliability provided by our European 5G modules production. Our initiative has received a strong response, allowing us to secure several major contracts, which are largely attributed to this value creation strategy,” said Hannes Niederhauser, CEO of Kontron.
