VEON has launched Starlink satellite-to-mobile connectivity through its Banglalink operator in Bangladesh, extending access to selected digital services beyond the reach of conventional mobile networks.
The launch makes Bangladesh the first country in South Asia to introduce the service, according to VEON. Customers with a 4G phone and Banglalink SIM can access the service through the MyBL app.
The service is intended to maintain access to essential apps and location services in remote areas and during emergencies, including natural disasters and prolonged power outages that can disrupt terrestrial mobile infrastructure.
“Adding satellite-to-mobile extends Banglalink’s reach beyond what towers alone can cover and makes our network more resilient,” said Johan Buse, Chief Executive of Banglalink.
The service will also become available through RYZE, Banglalink’s youth-focused digital brand, which incorporates AI-powered features.
The launch forms part of VEON’s strategy to combine satellite and terrestrial infrastructure to extend connectivity in underserved areas and improve network resilience.
The group introduced Starlink services through Kyivstar in Ukraine in 2025, followed by Beeline Kazakhstan in September 2026. The Bangladesh deployment expands the rollout into South Asia.
VEON said the deployments are intended to help customers maintain connectivity where conventional mobile infrastructure cannot provide coverage or is disrupted. However, the announcement did not specify the range of supported applications, service performance or pricing for Banglalink customers.
VEON provides connectivity and digital services across five countries, serving more than 150 million connectivity users and 228 million digital customers, according to the company.
