LG Electronics (LG) is set to debut the LG ThinQ ON AI home hub, featuring its innovative Affectionate Intelligence, at IFA 2024 in Berlin, Germany, from 6-10 September.
This cutting-edge hub is designed to offer exceptional connectivity and expandability, serving as the cornerstone of a comprehensive smart home ecosystem where LG’s appliances and “empathetic” AI collaborate to provide tailored comfort, care, and convenience.
The AI home hub integrates seamlessly with a wide range of appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, making it simple for users to configure and enjoy a personalised AI-powered home environment. Powered by LG’s unique Affectionate Intelligence, ThinQ ON continuously adapts to individual usage patterns and broader trends, enhancing users’ daily experiences and driving LG’s vision of a “Zero Labour Home.”
Compact and lightweight, the LG ThinQ ON features a cylindrical design in a subtle grey and white colour palette, allowing it to blend effortlessly into any space or décor. The device includes an AI speaker that enables natural conversations with LG’s AI voice assistant and allows users to enjoy their favourite audio content. The advanced capabilities of ThinQ ON are powered by LG’s high-performance AI chipset, which is designed with future scalability in mind.
Generative AI-based home solutions
ThinQ ON enables users to control their AI-powered appliances and living spaces using natural, conversational spoken commands. This creates an experience akin to conversing with friends or family, adding a more human element to user-device interactions.
Beyond understanding everyday language, LG’s AI home hub comprehends the context of conversations and identifies user preferences for each connected appliance, IoT device, and service, introducing a new level of “care” into the home. Additionally, ThinQ ON autonomously monitors all components of the smart home ecosystem, providing helpful notifications when tasks are completed (e.g., when the washing machine finishes a cycle) or when issues are detected.
Moreover, ThinQ ON allows users to check or adjust nearly all appliance settings through voice commands and to configure routines that automate the operation of appliances and IoT devices for enhanced convenience.
Connectivity, expandability, and versatility
The LG ThinQ ON is Matter-certified and supports multiple network connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Thread, ensuring a straightforward setup and a seamless smart home experience. Compatible with a broad array of LG innovations and an increasing number of appliances and IoT devices from other manufacturers, ThinQ ON enables users to manage their entire smart home ecosystem from a single hub, both now and in the future.
To further enhance the connectivity of ThinQ ON, LG acquired the smart home platform company Athom in July this year. Athom’s flagship smart hub, Homey Pro, connects to over 50,000 devices. The Homey App Store offers around 1,000 applications for connecting and controlling products from various global brands. LG intends to leverage the advantages of ThinQ ON’s open platform by continuously expanding the range of supported brands and devices.
Enhanced security and privacy
ThinQ ON employs LG Shield, the company’s proprietary security system, to ensure customer data is protected at all stages—from collection and storage to usage. LG Shield encrypts user data and securely stores it on a separate server. Any necessary data modifications are performed within a secure environment, preventing external tampering with the operational code and safeguarding customers while they benefit from LG’s latest AI innovations.
“An AI voice assistant and hub that serves as the centre of the smart home, ThinQ ON brings us significantly closer to realizing our vision of the Zero Labor Home,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, President of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “LG aims to make the ‘AI Home Lifestyle’ accessible to everyone, and will continue to deliver customised comfort, care and convenience through its Affectionate Intelligence solutions.”
Visitors to IFA 2024 (6-10 September) can explore LG’s latest AI Home solutions, including ThinQ ON, at the company’s exhibition booth.
