LG Electronics is set to unveil an innovative smart-home AI assistant at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
This AI assistant is a fusion of robotic, AI, and multi-modal technologies, enabling it to move, learn, comprehend, and engage in intricate conversations. It functions as both a comprehensive home manager and a companion, aimed at improving the daily lives of users and aligning with LG’s vision of a zero-labour home.
The assistant features a unique two-legged wheel design, allowing it to navigate homes autonomously. It is capable of verbal interactions with users and can express emotions through its articulated leg joints. Employing multi-modal AI technology, which integrates voice and image recognition with natural language processing, the assistant can understand context and intentions, enhancing its ability to communicate effectively with users.
Serving as a mobile smart home hub, it connects with and controls various smart home appliances and IoT devices. The assistant is powered by Qualcomm’s Robotics RB5 platform, which supports on-device AI functionalities like face and user recognition.
Equipped with a camera, speaker, and sensors, the assistant continuously collects environmental data such as temperature, humidity, and air quality. LG’s AI technologies process this data, learning and synthesising it with external information. The assistant also functions as a pet monitor and security guard, allowing remote pet care and sending alerts for unusual activities.
In the absence of residents, it can patrol the home, moving between rooms, and send smartphone notifications for issues like open windows or lights left on. It contributes to energy conservation by interfacing with smart outlets to switch off unused devices.
Upon the user’s return, the assistant greets them, gauging their emotions through voice and facial expression analysis to tailor music or content to their mood. It assists in everyday tasks by providing transportation information, weather updates, personal schedules, and medication reminders.
Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics’ home appliance business, stated: “Our revolutionary smart home AI assistant merges state-of-the-art autonomous mobility and AI technologies with advanced communication capabilities and services. As a smart life company, LG is dedicated to enhancing customers’ home experiences, making them smarter and more enjoyable.”
CES attendees from January 9-12 can explore LG’s smart life innovations, including the smart home AI assistant, at the company’s stand #16008 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
