Samsung Electronics has announced that a growing number of its products within the digital appliances business have been awarded the ‘Diamond’ level certification under UL Solutions’ Marketing Claim Verification IoT Security Rating Programme. This follows the success of the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+, which was the first in the home appliances sector to achieve this top-level certification, along with the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI.
Recently, three additional products have attained the same distinction: the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, the Air to Water Heat Pump, and the Bespoke Slide-in Range, which received the certification in June and July, respectively. This brings Samsung’s total number of ‘Diamond’ level verifications to five, the highest in the home appliances industry.
“As AI becomes more advanced, security is naturally becoming more important in terms of protecting users’ privacy,” said Miyoung Yoo, EVP and Head of the Software Development Team, Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “The result shows that Samsung has proved its competitiveness in security based on Samsung Knox. We will continue to prioritise security so that consumers can enjoy the AI capabilities of our products in a safer environment.”
UL Solutions’ IoT Security rating programme
UL Solutions assesses hundreds of marketing claims annually. One of their key services is the UL Solutions’ IoT Security Rating Programme, which verifies the security capabilities of smart home products.
The programme differentiates security performance across five levels—Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Achieving the highest ‘Diamond’ level requires passing stringent tests, including the ability to detect malicious software modifications, prevent unauthorised access, and anonymise user data. Products that attain this level are particularly distinguished from those at the ‘Platinum’ level by their capacity to detect unknown vulnerabilities and implement early detection programmes for security threats.
The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, the Air to Water Heat Pump, and the Bespoke Slide-in Range are the latest to receive this certification. These products are notable for their integration with other devices via SmartThings connectivity and their range of AI or smart features.
The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo is an all-in-one washer and dryer, eliminating the need for users to transfer laundry between machines. It features a 7-inch LCD display, offering cycle recommendations based on user preferences and seasonal needs. It also provides a centralised view of all connected appliances within the home, enabling seamless monitoring and control.
The Air to Water Heat Pump boasts a slim-fit design that complements home interiors. Its 7-inch LCD display supports multiple languages and assists users in monitoring solar PV energy usage. It also allows for the control of connected appliances through the display.
The Bespoke Slide-in Range, also equipped with a 7-inch LCD display, enhances the cooking experience. It enables users to access connected appliances through Bixby, using an in-built microphone and speaker. Furthermore, it analyses user preferences, offering personalised guidance, notifications, and recipe suggestions.
All Samsung home appliances are protected by Samsung Knox, ensuring robust data security and secure connectivity between devices. This allows customers to confidently use the AI features of these products, knowing their security is well safeguarded.
Visitors to IFA 2024, taking place in Berlin from 6-10 September, will have the opportunity to see Samsung’s home appliances that have been recognised for their outstanding security. The newly certified Air to Water Heat Pump and Bespoke AI Laundry Combo will be on display at the Samsung booth.
