MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 9400, its latest flagship chipset for smartphones, designed to excel in Edge AI applications, immersive gaming, advanced photography, and more. The Dimensity 9400, the fourth in MediaTek’s flagship mobile system-on-chip (SoC) range, delivers a significant performance boost with its second-generation All Big Core architecture, based on Arm’s v9.2 CPU design. This, combined with the most sophisticated GPU and NPU, ensures high-level performance in an exceptionally power-efficient package.
The Dimensity 9400 features MediaTek’s second-generation All Big Core architecture, incorporating one Arm Cortex-X925 core running at over 3.62GHz, alongside 3x Cortex-X4 and 4x Cortex-A720 cores. This setup results in 35% faster single-core performance and 28% faster multi-core performance compared to the Dimensity 9300. Built using TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, the chipset offers up to 40% greater power efficiency than its predecessor, allowing for extended battery life.
“The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will continue furthering our mission to be the enablers of AI, supporting powerful applications that anticipate users’ needs and adapt to their preferences, while also fuelling generative AI technology with on-device LoRA training and video generation,” said Joe Chen, President at MediaTek. “As the fourth-generation flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9400 continues to build on our momentum of steady growth in market share, and MediaTek’s legacy of delivering flagship performance in the most efficient design for the best user experiences.”
With MediaTek’s 8th Generation NPU, the Dimensity 9400 sets new industry benchmarks for generative AI, becoming the first mobile chipset to feature on-device LoRA training, high-quality video generation, and developer support for Agentic AI. It offers up to 80% faster performance in large language model (LLM) prompts, while achieving up to 35% better power efficiency compared to the Dimensity 9300.
The chipset also includes MediaTek’s new Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE), which advances traditional AI applications into more advanced agentic AI functions. MediaTek is collaborating with developers to provide a unified interface between AI agents, third-party APKs, and models that work seamlessly with both Edge AI and cloud services, reducing development time and fostering the growth of a new ecosystem of agentic AI applications.
For gaming enthusiasts, the 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU delivers up to 40% faster raytracing performance than the previous generation, offering a truly immersive experience. PC-level features, such as opacity micromaps (OMM), enable more realistic visual effects. The GPU also provides a 41% peak performance improvement, with up to 44% power savings compared to the Dimensity 9300, allowing for extended gaming sessions. The Dimensity 9400’s HyperEngine technology, co-developed with Arm Accurate Super Resolution (Arm ASR), ensures superior resolution and image quality.
In terms of photography and videography, the Dimensity 9400, powered by MediaTek’s Imagiq 1090, enables HDR video recording across the entire zoom range. With Smooth Zoom technology, users can easily capture moving subjects, while power consumption during photo and video capture is reduced by up to 14% for 4K60 video compared to the Dimensity 9300.
Additional features of the Dimensity 9400 include:
- An upgraded 3GPP Release-17 5G modem with 4CC-CA and up to 7Gbps sub-6GHz performance
- A new 4nm Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chip offering 7.3Gbps data rates and up to 50% lower power consumption than its predecessor
- Support for Wi-Fi 7 tri-band MLO
- MediaTek Xtra Range 3.0, delivering up to 30m improved Wi-Fi coverage
- 5G/4G Dual SIM Dual Active and Dual Data capabilities for enhanced flexibility
- Support for tri-fold smartphones, offering manufacturers the opportunity to develop innovative new form factors
