Aqara has unveiled the Presence Sensor FP1E, an addition to its smart sensor range. This new sensor, based on the Zigbee protocol, offers enhanced monitoring and automation for homeowners while remaining user-friendly. It also supports Matter via an Aqara Matter bridge, ensuring seamless compatibility with platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, Homey, and Samsung SmartThings.
The Presence Sensor FP1E utilises millimetre wave (mmWave) technology to detect even the slightest human movements, enabling precise and immediate presence detection for various home automation scenarios. It has a detection range of up to 6 metres and can monitor an area of up to 50 square metres when mounted on the ceiling. Unlike PIR motion sensors, the FP1E can detect human presence even when the individual is stationary. Furthermore, it recognises when a person leaves a room within seconds, triggering automation to switch off lights and air conditioners, thereby reducing energy consumption.
Complementing the more versatile Presence Sensor FP2, the FP1E is designed for enhanced ease of use, ideal for users seeking straightforward and precise occupancy detection without advanced features like zone positioning. Ready for immediate use, the FP1E employs advanced AI algorithms to distinguish between relevant movements and false triggers, filtering out small pets and interference sources such as mirrors, metals, curtains, and air conditioners to minimise unnecessary alerts. Its sensitivity is self-adaptive, and AI learning capabilities improve detection accuracy by continuously adapting to the user’s home environment.
Aqara Home users can leverage the FP1E to detect human movement or stillness, unlocking a variety of automation possibilities based on movement status and duration. For instance, the sensor can detect if a user remains still for over 30 minutes, sending notifications or changing the colour of smart lights as a gentle reminder to stand up. This automation promotes healthier routines, reduces sedentary behaviour risks, and prioritises self-care with visual cues and reminders.
The FP1E is powered by a 5V1A power supply and comes with both a magnetic and adhesive-backed bracket, facilitating easy installation on walls, ceilings, or corners.
