Vodafone Business IoT has partnered with Kigen to simplify and speed up the development of IoT products and services for enterprises. As a result of this collaboration, their iSIM technology is now commercially available across a range of chipsets, offering significantly faster delivery times compared to previous generations of SIM cards.
This advancement is made possible by the direct integration of Vodafone’s connectivity into Kigen’s iSIM Secure Package, embedded within the chosen chipset or module. This seamless integration allows enterprises to scale their operations more efficiently. Vodafone’s global connectivity, spanning over 180 countries, further supports rapid deployment, enabling businesses to manufacture once and distribute their products worldwide.
The optimisation stems from the growing demand for Kigen’s iSIM and Vodafone Business IoT’s managed connectivity solutions across various industries, including wearables, smart health devices, asset tracking, water monitoring, and industrial metering, all of which require long battery life of up to 10 years or more.
The iSIM represents a significant evolution in SIM technology, integrating the functionality of a traditional SIM card directly into the device’s chipset. This integration offers substantial advantages in terms of time to market for manufacturers developing connected devices. Moreover, iSIM allows devices to become more compact while enhancing security and tamper resistance.
The consolidation of components inherent to iSIM technology reduces costs related to sourcing separate SIM components, and eliminates the need for multiple agreements with suppliers, which can be time-consuming and costly. Automating the integration of iSIM during manufacturing not only simplifies connectivity deployment but also reduces manual installation and energy consumption, contributing to a lower carbon footprint.
“We’re delighted to further our collaboration with Kigen – providing worldwide iSIM connectivity to more customers in more countries, as well as hyperscaling our managed connectivity service,” said Erik Brenneis, CEO of Vodafone IoT. “Vodafone Business IoT has built a best-in-class iSIM connectivity service which is especially beneficial for applications – such as smart meters and tracking devices – that use low power, wide area (LPWA) IoT networks.
“Our integrated SIM can help businesses across almost every industry simplify their production processes, reduce their costs and help them to save on energy costs, as well as giving them access to secure and reliable connectivity wherever they operate across the globe. We look forward to scaling our iSIM service with new emerging technologies.”
“Enterprises with a global focus are leading the charge for rapid iSIM integration, emphasising speed to market as a vital factor in their product strategy. With Vodafone Business IoT, Kigen’s innovative iSIM Secure Package empowers manufacturers to distribute devices at scale, eliminating the traditional wait for SIMs – setting a new benchmark in secure IoT,” said Vincent Korstanje, Chief Executive Officer of Kigen.
