OptConnect recently announced its acquisition of Capestone, a Netherlands-based company specialising in 4G and 5G IoT solutions across Europe. This acquisition follows OptConnect’s previous purchases of Premier Wireless Solutions in November 2021 and M2M DataGlobal in January 2024. Together, these acquisitions have created a global managed wireless connectivity platform, capable of supporting a wide range of customers across multiple industries worldwide.
The acquisition of Capestone significantly expands OptConnect’s international reach and broadens the range of sectors and markets that the combined entity can serve. Capestone brings a wealth of hardware expertise, alongside a comprehensive suite of IoT software, services, and connectivity solutions, offered under the Comgate brand. With a presence in over 60 countries and a network of more than 1,000 channel partners and enterprises, Capestone’s reach is substantial.
Headquartered in Leiden, Netherlands, Capestone has been delivering IoT solutions for the past 15 years, including robust mobile internet services, IoT networks, and critical communication systems across industries such as healthcare, transportation, maritime, construction, industrial IoT, retail, and surveillance. Both Capestone and OptConnect share a customer-centric approach, focusing on simplifying connectivity through managed services. This allows customers to concentrate on their core business activities rather than managing cellular devices. Capestone’s strong relationships with local carriers enable it to provide competitive rate plans and diverse solutions across Europe and beyond.
OptConnect’s acquisition of M2M DataGlobal in January 2024 expanded its footprint into Latin America. Collectively, OptConnect, M2M DataGlobal, and Capestone now serve more than 10,000 unique customers globally, delivering managed wireless services.
“This new partnership is a key step in strengthening our global presence,” said Chris Baird, CEO of OptConnect. “With the addition of Capestone, OptConnect can now significantly expand its capabilities in Europe and provide more seamless and reliable wireless connectivity solutions worldwide. Our focus remains on empowering customers to achieve their IoT goals, and this strategic move ensures we can continue delivering value and innovation on a global scale.”
Capestone will retain its brand name and continue operations from its European headquarters in Leiden, as well as its offices in Düsseldorf, Germany, and London, United Kingdom. Jos Ouwerkerk will remain Managing Director of the Capestone business unit.
“Our company has always prioritised delivering cutting-edge connectivity solutions to meet the evolving demands of our customers,” said Jos Ouwerkerk, Managing Director of Capestone. “By joining forces with OptConnect, we’re not only expanding our reach but also enhancing our ability to provide even more innovative and scalable IoT solutions. This partnership allows us to leverage OptConnect’s global experience while continuing to deliver the exceptional service and tailored solutions our customers have come to expect.”
