Emerson has launched the DeltaV Edge Environment, a novel software enhancement for the DeltaV automation platform. This solution functions as an operational technology (OT) sandbox, facilitating data manipulation, analysis, and organisation. It enables teams to deploy applications close to the data source, providing secure, seamless access to contextualised OT data across the cloud and enterprise. The DeltaV Edge Environment aids in rapidly achieving operational improvements in areas like productivity and sustainability.
The tool addresses the challenge of accessing OT data, often hindered by layers of systems and networks, leading to loss of meaningful context. The DeltaV Edge Environment extends the distributed control system (DCS), creating a secure data channel. Users can directly share contextualised data with cloud and enterprise applications and leverage the built-in execution sandbox for tasks like dashboard creation, application running, and AI tool training.

Users can run various applications using the contextualised data in the DeltaV Edge Environment, confident in its accuracy and currency.
The DeltaV Edge Environment utilises standard protocols like OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) for contextualised data delivery. Standard application programming interfaces like Representational State Transfer Architectural Style (REST API) and scripting tools such as Python offer a sandbox environment for users to design and execute applications.
