The latest issue of IoT Insider looks at what happens when connected technology moves from the pilot stage into the physical world, where interoperability, reliability, security and trust matter as much as connectivity itself.
We take a look at Enchanted Tools’ Mirokaï robots which demonstrate how sensors, onboard computing, AI and wireless connectivity are being combined to give machines a more human-like presence and the ability to interact with their surroundings.
Elsewhere, Alastair MacLeod, CEO of Ground Control, looks at how satellite connectivity can extend IoT into areas where terrestrial networks cannot reach. His article, “Watching for wildfires where terrestrial networks can’t reach”, examines the role of connected monitoring in detecting and responding to wildfires in remote locations.
In healthcare, Sven Dewitz and Dr Valentin Kammerlohr of Vector Informatik explore the challenge of making medical IoT devices and systems work together reliably. As connected medical technologies become more sophisticated, interoperability is becoming a practical engineering and safety issue rather than simply a standards question.
Separately, author Gleb Tsipursky examines the question of trustworthy AI, looking at what organisations need to consider as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in connected products and services.
And connected mobility raises similar questions. Remco Timmer, SVP Product & Technology at HERE Technologies, looks at the technology behind robotaxis and the growing interaction between autonomous vehicles, data, connectivity and the infrastructure around them.
Meanwhile Oleksii Cherkashyn of Blynk Technologies asks how engineers can test fleets containing 100,000 connected devices, highlighting the gap between proving that a connected product works and being confident that it will continue to work at scale.
Other features examine emerging technologies, products and developments across the IoT landscape, from new approaches to connectivity and sensing to the technologies shaping the next generation of connected systems.
