The Broadband Forum will demonstrate AI-driven network management, root-cause analysis and digital twins at Network X in Vienna this month, as broadband standards move towards autonomous network operations and new service revenues.
The demonstrations will show how the Forum’s standards and open-source projects can be applied to real-world broadband networks, including closed-loop fault management, wholesale network sharing and smart home services.
Seven use cases will be presented at the Broadband Forum Member Pavilion, covering technologies including agentic AI, the User Services Platform (USP), CloudCO, digital twins and Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput (L4S).
One demonstration, based on the Forum’s OB-CA2S Cloud SDK, will show how a Level 4 autonomous network could independently monitor, analyse and remediate faults within the access domain. Another will use an AI-powered assurance agent to analyse issues across network domains, identify root causes and execute targeted remediation.
A separate USP-enabled demonstration will apply AI to telemetry data to identify patterns and generate structured insights for troubleshooting.
The Forum will also demonstrate how its open-source projects can support modular applications on residential gateways, potentially enabling operators to add services tailored to subscriber requirements.
Digital twins will be used in another demonstration to combine telemetry from access networks into a common, model-driven view. The approach is intended to support predictive analytics, service-level agreement assurance and closed-loop automation across wholesale broadband networks.
The demonstrations also extend to network sharing and quality of experience. A USP-enabled open-access use case will show how wholesale and retail providers can access a device combining a residential gateway and optical network unit, while an L4S demonstration will examine how lower latency and packet loss can improve application performance over passive optical networks.
“The demonstrations also create a valuable feedback loop that strengthens standards and helps shape the Forum’s services-led broadband work through insights gained from real-world implementation,” said Fabrizio Guidotti, Chief Solution Officer at OutSys.
The demonstrations have been developed by Broadband Forum members including Motive, OutSys, Airhora, Altice Labs, Beegol, Condor Technologies, Fritz!, Huawei, Incognito Software Systems, Net Reply, Netsia, Nokia, QuantWiFi, Red Hat, Vantiva and UNH-IOL. Service providers contributing to the work include AT&T, FiberCop, Orange, TIM, Türk Telekom and Vodafone.
Broadband Forum members will also hold four BASe workshops during Network X, covering value-added services, AI-native networks, multi-gigabit access and future broadband opportunities.
