Aeris has expanded its IoT eSIM management platform with support for the GSMA’s SGP.32 standard, targeting manufacturers and enterprises deploying connected devices across multiple markets.
The company said yesterday that its updated Aeris eSIM Orchestrator, part of the Aeris IoT Accelerator platform, adds SGP.32 remote profile management alongside existing support for the SGP.02 M2M and SGP.22 consumer eSIM specifications.
The move is intended to simplify the management of eSIM profiles across large fleets of connected devices, particularly where devices operate across different countries and mobile networks.
Aeris is also introducing a Single SKU eSIM, allowing manufacturers to produce one device variant for multiple markets and assign a local operator profile after deployment. The company said this could reduce the need for market-specific device and SIM variants.
A third offering, Aeris eIM as a Service (eIMaaS), provides a managed eSIM IoT Remote Manager for SGP.32 profile switching. Customers can alternatively integrate their own eIM from vendors including Thales, G+D, Kigen and IDEMIA.
“SGP.32 provides the foundation, but orchestration makes it work at global scale,” said Jon Connet, Chief Product Officer at Aeris.
The company said its IoT Accelerator platform currently manages more than 110 million IoT devices, with 44 million using eSIM technology. Aeris claims eSIM devices account for more than 40% of its installed base, compared with 12% across the wider market.
The platform connects customers to 30 mobile network operators through pre-integrated support for the three eSIM specifications. Aeris said devices attach to networks in more than 200 countries each month, with around 70% of those connections taking place on a partner network rather than through roaming.
The company is positioning the new capabilities around increasingly autonomous connected systems, including vehicles, industrial robots and infrastructure.
For IoT deployments, the significance of SGP.32 is less about changing an individual SIM profile than automating profile management across large numbers of devices. Aeris said policies and events can determine which profile a device uses, when a new profile is downloaded and how failures are handled.
“Our collaboration with Aeris sets a strong benchmark for how operators and platform partners can deliver global eSIM orchestration in a way that’s practical, standards-compliant, and built for the realities of global IoT,” said Elisabeth Reille, Executive Vice President of Smart Mobility Services at Orange Business.
Aeris also offers its IoT Watchtower security service as an additional network-level security layer. The company said the combination of connectivity management, eSIM orchestration and security is intended to support connected systems that need to operate across markets without manual intervention.
The announcement comes as the GSMA’s SGP.32 specification becomes an increasingly important part of the industry’s move towards more flexible IoT eSIM deployments, particularly for devices that need to change connectivity arrangements during their operational lifetime.
