Boldyn Networks has been selected to design, build and operate a private wireless network at Ontario International Airport in California, with the initial deployment focused on physical security and perimeter intrusion detection.
The network will combine private 4G and 5G connectivity with on-premise Edge computing and centralised private Cloud management. It will also support expanded camera coverage across the airport, which handles more than 7 million passengers a year.
The airport, which covers more than 1,700 acres, is investing in the network as passenger and cargo volumes increase. Unlike a public mobile network, the private system will use dedicated spectrum, segmented architecture and enterprise-level controls, giving the airport greater control over connectivity for operational applications.
“Investing in a private wireless network gives Ontario International Airport the operational autonomy necessary to manage and secure our more than 1,700-acre footprint with precision,” said Chuck Miwa, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the Ontario International Airport Authority.
The initial applications will focus on physical security and perimeter monitoring, with camera coverage being expanded across the site. Boldyn said the network is designed to support additional applications as the airport’s requirements develop, without requiring changes to the underlying infrastructure.
The architecture combines 4G/5G access with local Edge computing, allowing data from connected systems to be processed closer to where it is generated. Centralised private cloud management will provide a further layer for managing the network, while Boldyn’s Network Operations Centre and Security Operations Centre will provide 24/7 monitoring.
Jason Caliento, Chief Commercial Officer, US, at Boldyn Networks, said the network was designed to provide the bandwidth and low latency required for the airport’s immediate security requirements and future applications.
