Element has dedicated $10 million to advancing technology in consumer electronics, with a new connected technologies laboratory near Guildford, England.
Named Element Surrey Hills, this purpose-built UK facility is equipped with advanced equipment and infrastructure. The 25,000 sq. ft greenfield facility, supported by a notable global technology manufacturer, aims to expedite product market entry in Europe.
Element Surrey Hills will enhance capacity for vital Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), radio and wireless testing, and introduce Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing to Element’s services in Europe, complementing its existing SAR capabilities in the USA and South Korea.
The laboratory’s design and construction benefited from insights across Element, with input from colleagues in Europe, the USA, and South Korea. Customers at Surrey Hills will have access to Element’s global network of experts, promoting collaborative and equitable knowledge exchange.
Matt Hopkinson, Executive Vice President of EMEAA at Element, remarked, “Consumer electronics are facing increasing complexity and evolving global regulatory requirements. This new laboratory enables us to offer effective testing facilities, supporting rapid market introduction and use of new technologies worldwide. We are committed to supporting manufacturers throughout their product lifecycle, from research and development to launch.”
Element Surrey Hills is accredited to UKAS 17025 and has recently become a PTCRB Associate Test Lab with 2G, 4G, and 5G RSE capabilities, further supporting operators and device manufacturers in ensuring interoperability with wireless networks.
Additionally, Element has partnered with local universities to provide engineering students with formal training in regulation and testing, as well as offering employment, career progression, and training opportunities. So far, nine local students have joined Element Surrey Hills on various contracts.
Element Surrey Hills joins Element’s 44 connected technologies and mobility facilities in the UK, USA, Germany, China, South Korea, and Japan, and adds to its team of over 1,200 technology experts. Element’s services span across mobile and cellular devices, consumer electronics, IoT, telecommunications regulatory services, medical devices, automotive, and more.
