M5Stack has unveiled the M5Dial, an intelligent rotary control device featuring a vibrant colour touchscreen display. This innovative product is built upon the foundation of the M5StampS3 module, which, in turn, is centred around the Espressif ESP32-S3 microcontroller.
Described as a versatile embedded development board, the M5Dial incorporates a comprehensive set of features and sensors, making it ideal for a wide range of smart home control applications. Among its key components are a 1.28-inch circular TFT touchscreen, a rotary encoder, an RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) detection module, a Real-Time Clock (RTC) circuit, a buzzer, and discreet under-screen buttons. These elements empower users to effortlessly undertake diverse and creative projects.
The M5Dial introduces a circular colour touchscreen display complemented by a rotary encoder and an RFID reader. At its core lies the M5StampS3 module, which boasts the Espressif ESP32-S3 microcontroller equipped with a dual-core Tensilica Xtensa LX7 32-bit processor running at speeds of up to 240MHz. This module also includes 512kB of static RAM (SRAM), 8MB of pseudo-static RAM (PSRAM), and 8MB of SPI flash memory, alongside integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio capabilities.
The device showcases a 1.28-inch colour touchscreen display with a resolution of 240×240 pixels, employing the GC9A01 display and FT3267 touch drivers. Surrounding the display is a movable ring that activates the rotary encoder input. Behind the screen, there is a 13.56MHz RFID tag reader. Additionally, for projects requiring portability, the M5Dial supports an optional battery, which can be charged through either a USB Type-C connector or the board’s 6-36VDC power input.
