The latest episode of IoT Unplugged featured Rom Eizenberg, CRO and Head of Product Innovation, Kontakt.io speaking about the challenges facing the healthcare industry and how technologies like real-time location services (RTLS) and AI can help address them.
Eisenberg explained that healthcare is plagued by fragmented data and inefficient operations. Hospitals typically use over 500 different software systems, leading to siloed data that prevents coordination and optimisation. This results in high costs, long wait times, and financial vulnerability, especially for the many non-profit hospitals.
RTLS technology can help create a real-time picture of hospital operations by tracking the location of people, equipment, and patients. This allows automating workflows, improving asset utilisation, and enhancing staff safety. Eisenberg provided examples of how RTLS can streamline processes like patient discharges.
The conversation then turned to how AI can further enhance RTLS by using historical data to predict future needs and recommend optimal actions. AI-powered RTLS can anticipate resource requirements and proactively allocate them, improving efficiency and patient experience.
Eisenberg emphasised that healthcare providers should view RTLS as a transformative platform, not just a point solution. He recommended that they focus on understanding real-time data, driving digital transformation, and preparing their systems to leverage emerging AI capabilities. This holistic approach can help address the deep-seated operational challenges in the healthcare industry.
