Aileen Ryan is to step down as President and CEO of the RAIN Alliance at the end of November, ending a four-year tenure in which the RFID industry group says its membership has doubled.
Ryan, who joined the alliance in October 2022, will leave the organisation on 30th November. The RAIN Alliance said its board had begun the process of identifying her successor and would provide further details in due course.
During Ryan’s tenure, shipments of RAIN tag integrated circuits have grown by around 50% a year, according to the organisation. It also launched RAIN in Action in 2024, which has become its flagship industry event and attracted more than 500 delegates this year.
The alliance has also sought to broaden the role of RAIN RFID beyond traditional identification and tracking applications. The technology has been recognised as a potential data carrier for Digital Product Passports by CEN/CENELEC Joint Technical Committee 24, while RAIN-enabled smartphones have begun reaching the market.
“RAIN technology plays a critical role in enabling a smarter, more sustainable and connected world,” Ryan said. She added that she was proud to have established the alliance as “a trusted source and credible voice” in the industry.
Jos Kunnen, Chair of the RAIN Alliance Board of Directors, said Ryan had played a “pivotal role” in the organisation’s development and thanked her for her contribution.
The alliance did not give a reason for Ryan’s departure or indicate where she would move next.
