Kigen, a provider of SIM, eSIM and iSIM technologies, has partnered with Monogoto, a Cloud provider for connectivity-as-a-service across public, private, and satellite networks, to launch the iSIM Evaluation Kit.
This kit allows enterprises and developers to explore the potential of iSIM technology within their connected devices. Since the rise of cellular IoT devices, the traditional physical SIM card has been a significant obstacle in managing supply and the lifecycle of development projects. Customers have consistently faced the challenges of managing SIM stock and various SKUs, with physical SIMs—whether plastic or embedded—introducing design complexities, greater power consumption, and increased costs.
iSIMs, or integrated SIMs, which are embedded directly into modems, will transform IoT device development by eliminating the need for physical SIM cards. This innovation offers a range of benefits to device manufacturers, including a simplified supply chain, reduced power usage, and lower total cost of ownership across a wide array of IoT applications.
By removing the hardware aspect of SIM cards, iSIMs enable seamless out-of-the-box connectivity without compromising security, and with notable energy efficiency advantages. The introduction of the iSIM Evaluation Kit provides developers and enterprises with the opportunity to trial iSIM technology before scaling their projects.
“We are very excited with this new technology because it removes the physical component that has caused so much friction for developers,” said Maor Efrati, Co-Founder and CTO of Monogoto. “The iSIM is a big step towards a real software-defined device. And the iSIM Evaluation Kit developed in collaboration with Kigen demonstrates how SIM functionality that is embedded directly into any device will unlock a new era of efficiency and innovation.”
“Manufacturers are increasingly turning to Kigen’s iSIM technology to take advantage of lower bill of material and operational costs while maintaining a focus on robust security. With Monogoto’s ISIM Evaluation Kit, developers can now streamline product development with Kigen’s iSIM, activating their global network with just a few lines of code,” commented Vincent Korstanje, CEO at Kigen.
Monogoto will demonstrate the iSIM Evaluation Kit at Embedded World North America in Austin, Texas, this October.
