CommScope and STMicroelectronics have announced a collaboration that integrates CommScope’s IoT security platform with ST’s STM32WB microcontroller unit (MCU). This collaboration offers a refined solution for IoT device manufacturers to adhere to the Connectivity Standards Alliance’s Matter security standards.
The solution aims to facilitate the IoT device manufacturing process by simplifying the development and provisioning of secure Matter-device credentials, potentially reducing costs and manufacturing time. Devices can now be commissioned at the MCU level, negating the need for developer input. This integration utilises CommScope’s extensive experience in embedding cryptographic keys and digital certificates into manufacturing at scale, combined with ST’s expertise in microcontrollers and development ecosystems.
Nathalie Vallespin, STM32 Connectivity Product Line Manager at STMicroelectronics, highlighted the company’s involvement with the CSA and its support for Matter development: “Our position in microcontrollers and secure elements gives us insights into the challenges device-makers encounter. Our collaboration with CommScope is designed to foster Matter development through a more secure and efficient process for credential provisioning.”
Bart Giordano, President of Networking, Intelligent Cellular, and Security Solutions at CommScope, remarked on the integration: “By joining forces with STMicroelectronics, we’re presenting a solution that addresses the complexities of Matter adoption, while managing scale and cost.
