Comau’s new digital-centric, innovative robotic solutions and powerful AI-driven automation solutions, set to debut at Automate, North America’s automation exhibition. Highlighting its global reach with local roots, Comau will be present at Chicago’s McCormick Place from 6-9 May, 2024, in Booth 4041, introducing the new S-Family of compact 6-axis articulated “red” robots and an AI-enhanced vision-based automated piece-picking solution for random objects.
Comau’s approach to making advanced automation more intuitive and accessible aims to cater to the burgeoning industrial automation sector, expected to grow at a rate of up to 14% CAGR from 2024 to 2030, thereby extending the benefits of advanced automation solutions to a diverse array of markets.
Automate provides the ideal platform for Comau’s global debut of the new S-Family of high-speed, energy-efficient robots, designed for arc welding and handling applications requiring precision, repeatability, and speed. These 6-axis articulated robots boast a water and dust-resistant IP68 hollow-wrist design with integrated arc and gigabit dressings, making them ideal for various applications, including arc welding, handling, food & beverage, general assembly, foundry, automotive, and battery manufacturing processes.
Additional advantages include enhanced access to confined spaces, safeguarded cables to prevent damage and reduce contamination risks in sensitive environments, and multiple mounting options (floor, wall, ceiling) to optimise space utilisation without compromising performance.
Comau will showcase these compact, resilient, and versatile robots within demonstration cells featuring arc welding applications and automated product sorting and picking systems. The latter, featuring MI.RA/OnePicker, autonomously identifies and distinguishes between randomly placed items. Another demonstration cell featuring a Racer-3 robot employs the Unified Robot Control Library and Emulate3D from Rockwell Automation for palletising, colour sorting, and depalletising tasks, demonstrating the robust collaboration between the companies.
The Comau Open Controller, nominated for an Automate Innovation Award, offers advanced proprietary robot control software, enabling seamless external PC control of Comau robots. This makes it an ideal choice for companies, universities, research centres, and innovative industries seeking to implement custom motion strategies or algorithms for robot control.
Comau’s MATE-XT and MATE-XB upper and lower body exoskeletons will also be on display, aimed at assisting wearers with lifting, bending, and repetitive tasks, thereby enhancing worker well-being, task quality, and perceived effort reduction.
Comau’s commitment to supporting workers and companies extends to upskilling and reskilling initiatives through the Comau Academy and its educational e.DO™ robot, offering training in digital skills, robot programming, simulated welding, and more.
“With more than 50 years of experience in automotive, one of the most complex realities in terms of processes, cycle times, flexibility requirements and technology rates, Comau is in a prime position to meet the growing demand for sustainable automation, particularly in emerging sectors that previously lacked automation.” explained Pietro Gorlier, Comau CEO. “As a 360° automation partner able to quickly transition from R&D to field-tested deployable innovation, Comau is forging new ground in harnessing the power of automation to drive increasingly complex manufacturing tasks all over the world.”
Leveraging its global presence and local expertise, Comau will showcase its automation innovation prowess in the USA and beyond, spanning logistics, warehousing, hydrogen, e-Mobility, shipbuilding, aerospace, and other unstructured environments with its intelligent robots and mobile robotic solutions.
