The LoRa Alliance has reported that more than 125 million LoRaWAN devices have now been deployed worldwide, marking what the industry body described as a significant moment for one of the most widely adopted low-power wide-area network technologies.
The California-based group said that deployments across its ecosystem continue to grow at an annual rate of about 25%, with some of the largest networks — those with multi-million-device installations — recording growth closer to 50%.
Alper Yegin, the Alliance’s Chief Executive, said the milestone underlined the maturity of the LoRaWAN standard and its central role in what he called “Massive IoT”. He argued that the technology is now underpinning large-scale deployments in smart metering, buildings, and cities, and would increasingly act as a bridge between AI systems and physical infrastructure.
IoT has been discussed for decades, but the Alliance said uptake has accelerated in recent years as LoRaWAN networks have spread. Among the largest commercial roll-outs are ZENNER with 10 million devices, Actility with 4.6 million, The Things Industries with 3.8 million, Birdz with 3.6 million meters, and Netmore with 3.4 million devices.
Matt Hatton, Founding Partner at analyst group Transforma Insights, said the scale now reached “reflects LoRaWAN’s great capabilities in addressing a diverse array of IoT use cases, and its vibrant ecosystem”.
In a sign of growing mainstream attention, the Alliance will take a prominent role at CES 2026 in Las Vegas from 6th to 9th January. It plans live demonstrations, case studies, and a three-hour main-stage programme on 7th January titled “Massive IoT Unfolding: LoRaWAN in Action”.
Speakers will include senior figures from The Things Industries, Semtech, Kerlink, MultiTech, NNNCo, and ZENNER, who will outline deployment results and discuss how companies are monetising LoRaWAN-based services.
The Alliance will also host a pavilion in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s North Hall, with companies including Browan Communications, Cicicom, MClimate, RAKwireless, Seeed Technology, SenArch, and TEKTELIC showing applications already operating in smart buildings, industrial sites, utilities, supply chains, and city infrastructure. Demonstrations will cover technologies ranging from asset-tracking systems and remote-energy monitoring to predictive-maintenance platforms using edge AI.
