In an era marked by the rapid deployment of high-capacity 4G and 5G networks, Jersey Telecom (JT Group) is addressing the burgeoning issue of network congestion and performance disruptions caused by IoT devices. In collaboration with its development partner RoamsysNext, Jersey Telecom has introduced a pioneering IoT Certification Manager (ICM) aimed at optimising network performance.
Network congestion often arises from an excessive load of signalling and data traffic, surpassing the network’s capacity to cope. Traditionally, operators have attempted to manage this by blocking devices based on international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) and traffic patterns, which has sometimes led to suboptimal service.
The newly launched ICM, available via an annual subscription, is designed to mitigate these issues by enhancing service quality for both customers and businesses. It offers critical insights and analytics, enabling operators to identify and, if necessary, take appropriate measures against uncertified or unfamiliar devices that could compromise network performance or security.
Beyond improving network performance, the ICM is also crafted to bolster cybersecurity, ensuring that only verified and secure devices can connect to the network. This system not only benefits operators but also assists original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in ensuring that their devices perform as intended on networks. Supported by a comprehensive dataset, the ICM aligns type allocation codes with certification data to uniquely identify each IoT device. It also features a user-friendly interface equipped with tools for search, bulk entry, data export, and device verification against manufacturer records.
Marcus Irwin, Head of Product Innovation at JT, stated, “As an MNO, we recognise the significant challenges posed by the increasing number of IoT devices. With the ICM, we offer a groundbreaking solution that not only enhances network performance but also strengthens cybersecurity, addressing critical needs in our rapidly evolving technological landscape.”
Michael Grasmück, CEO of RoamsysNext, emphasised, “Our commitment to enriching and consolidating data is unparalleled. The ICM represents a comprehensive, single-source solution that meets the industry’s needs, enabling operators to alleviate network congestion and elevate service quality for their customers and businesses.”
