Kontron announced its collaboration with Truminds Software Systems and Napatech. This partnership aims to optimise energy-efficient private wireless networks through the use of Kontron edge servers and Truminds’ TruCore (5G Core Network Technology Solution), tailored for Napatech’s SmartNIC for User Plane Function (UPF) offload. Truminds will showcase this collaborative solution at booth #5H24 at MWC in Barcelona from 26th through 29th February 2024.

Truminds, known for its specialised engineering solutions, enhances both cost-performance and energy efficiency with Kontron servers, specifically designed for edge deployments. The ME1310 multi-access edge server from Kontron, powered by Intel Xeon D-2700 processors, is engineered to meet the unique demands of private networks with its robust, power-efficient design.
This deployment incorporates Smart Network Interface Cards (SmartNICs) from Napatech, which efficiently offload and accelerate the compute-intensive User Plane Function (UPF) using Truminds’ TruCore. Napatech’s SmartNIC solution delivers top-tier UPF performance, markedly increasing the number of users or devices per server in comparison to traditional pure software implementations, while reducing overall costs and enhancing packet core energy efficiency.
Truminds’ TruCore is a Release 17 compliant, industry-validated 5G packet core technology solution offering cloud-native 5G packet core functions, including UPF, SMF, AMF, AUSF, UDM, and UDSF, among others. The joint solution employs a port-to-port “hair-pinned” architecture to ensure peak system performance and optimised server CPU utilisation.
