The London Internet Exchange has expanded its African footprint with the launch of LINX Accra, a new interconnection hub now live in Digital Realty’s recently opened ACR2 data centre in the capital. The move is expected to bolster West Africa’s Internet resilience and support growing regional demand for low-latency connectivity.
Digital Realty brought its ACR2 facility online in October, positioning it close to several submarine cable landing stations in central Accra. LINX’s engineering team has since completed the installation of the exchange’s switching infrastructure, enabling networks co-located at the site to access peering services through a single cross-connect.
Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX, said collaboration with local partners had been central to the project. “We are lucky to have such engaged data centre partners here in Ghana,” she said. “When building IXPs in new geographies, collaboration is key, and success is very much a team effort. When our team are on the ground installing, we work closely alongside our data centre partners to ensure the project is compliant with their security measures, and is installed efficiently while knowledge sharing along the way.”
LINX Accra becomes the organisation’s third exchange in Africa, after Nairobi and Mombasa, reflecting its continuing push into high-growth markets. The new IXP aims to provide scalable connectivity for carriers, content providers, and cloud platforms seeking to expand across West Africa.
