Morse Micro and The Things Industries announced a successful demonstration of Wi-Fi HaLow as a backhaul connection for LoRaWAN gateways connecting to The Things Stack Cloud.
This is being showcased at the Things Conference, running in Amsterdam from 23-24 September, demonstrating its potential to transform real-world deployments and redefine the next era of IoT connectivity, ‘IoT 2.0’.
The demonstration shows how Wi-Fi HaLow’s extended range and low power consumption make it a well suited wireless backhaul solution for LoRaWAN gateways. By integrating Morse Micro’s Wi-Fi HaLow technology with The Things Stack, operators can deploy LoRaWAN gateways without relying on Ethernet or traditional Wi-Fi infrastructure. This expands placement flexibility across buildings, farms, industrial sites, and other challenging environments – a hallmark of IoT 2.0 where flexibility, scalability, and simplicity converge.
Wi-Fi HaLow operates in the sub-GHz frequency bands, delivering kilometre-range connectivity with high penetration through walls and obstacles. Combined with LoRaWAN’s long-range, low-power device communication, this backhaul innovation facilitates robust end-to-end IoT connectivity in hard-to-reach areas and moves the industry closer to IoT 2.0’s promise of truly ubiquitous, always-on connectivity.
