This technical article provides a deep dive into the worlds of utility management and environmental monitoring as industries susceptible to the effects of climate change and keenly attuned to it. It explores how connectivity, satellite and sensing technologies are being deployed in the field to collect more data and better understand its impacts.
Drawing on the expertise and insights of technical experts who offer their own experiences of deploying these technologies – generating some debate about what connectivity is best, for example, on licensed or unlicensed spectrums – the article ultimately offers an optimistic outlook on the threats climate change poses, concluding that the collection of data and the meaningful insights that can be drawn from it will be a key component in understanding how our world is changing.
