Silicon Labs has partnered with Kudelski IoT, a division of the Kudelski Group, to introduce a new solution aimed at speeding up the development of Matter-certified IoT devices. This collaboration integrates Kudelski IoT’s Matter Device Attestation Certificates (DAC) with Silicon Labs’ Custom Part Manufacturing Service (CPMS), allowing device manufacturers to implement Zero Trust security from the production stage through to the customer, thereby saving time and reducing costs.
The Zero Trust security model, based on the principle of “never trust, always verify” and continuous authentication, is central to Matter, an IP-based connectivity protocol. Matter requires the use of unique device authentication certificates supported by Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to ensure robust security. However, while this framework offers enhanced protection for IoT devices, it also presents challenges for manufacturers, particularly in securely obtaining and transferring certificates from Certificate Authorities to production sites.
Through this partnership, Silicon Labs’ secure and cost-effective manufacturing services are combined with Kudelski’s certified Matter PKI service, allowing IoT manufacturers to securely inject Matter DACs during the production process, simplifying the transition to mass production of Matter-certified devices.
“The Matter volume production doesn’t have to be a complex hurdle,” said Rohit Ravichandran, Product Manager for security and services at Silicon Labs. “Our first-of-its-kind secure provisioning service, along with Kudelski IoT’s expertise and PKI services, will enable manufacturers to focus on innovation without compromising on security.”
The integration of CPMS with DAC injection offers several key advantages:
- Secure injection of signed DACs at Silicon Labs-designated manufacturing facilities
- Simplified key management, reducing production complexity
- Faster time-to-market for Matter-certified products
- Enhanced protection against counterfeiting and unauthorised overproduction
“Kudelski IoT’s Matter Product Attestation Certificate Service does the heavy lifting for you, allowing you to join the Matter ecosystem easily,” said Chrystophe Clément, Principal Architect at Kudelski IoT. “We’re excited to partner with Silicon Labs to scale Matter adoption and reduce the burdens for manufacturers.”
Silicon Labs’ Matter DAC injection service is now available for its MG24 wireless SoCs and modules, which feature Secure Vault technology. Once product development is completed and Matter certification is achieved through the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), manufacturers can easily order parts through Silicon Labs’ CPMS web portal.
