Moxa has introduced the CCG-1500 Series industrial 5G cellular gateways. These gateways are designed to facilitate the adoption of private 5G in various industrial settings. The CCG-1500 Series provides 3GPP 5G connectivity for Ethernet and serial devices, making it simpler to deploy private 5G networks in areas such as smart manufacturing and logistics, particularly for AMR/AGV applications, and in unmanned truck fleets in the mining sector.
These gateways serve as ARM-based media and protocol converters with an integrated 5G/LTE module, using the Snapdragon® X55 5G Modem-RF System. Developed in collaboration with industry partners, the CCG-1500 Series supports a wide range of technologies and protocols to ensure compatibility with major 5G Radio Access Networks (RANs) and core networks from providers like Ericsson, NEC, and Nokia.
The compact CCG-1500 Series offers speeds up to 920 Mbps and facilitates serial/Ethernet-to-5G conversion for private networks. This capability is crucial for integrating Operational Technology (OT) networks with 5G systems, thereby enhancing and expanding industrial operations. The gateways come equipped with two Gigabit ports, one serial port, and dual-SIM support for carrier failover, ensuring robust connectivity and reliability.
Ryan Teng, Industrial Wireless Business Manager at Moxa, commented on the gateways’ role in IoT: “Many industrial IoT devices such as sensors, controllers, IP cameras, and legacy endpoints don’t have cellular connectivity support. The CCG-1500 Series gateways, with their high power efficiency, can connect Ethernet and serial traffic to a private 5G cellular network, addressing the dynamic network requirements of industrial applications while saving costs and resources.”
Moxa has a dedicated engineering team collaborating with key figures in the 5G ecosystem to develop innovative 5G solutions and network technologies. These collaborations include conducting module- and system-level tests based on the 3GPP 5G standard. Moxa also benefits from the use of Qualcomm Technologies’ QXDM Professional™ Tool, enhancing the team’s proficiency in 5G product development.
ST Liew, Vice President at QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies Asia-Pacific Pte. Ltd. and President of Qualcomm Taiwan, South East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “Our partnership with Moxa is set to advance industrial IoT in Taiwan and beyond. The combination of our modem-RF system technology and Moxa’s expertise in robust 5G cellular gateways is enabling more reliable connectivity for various industrial automation use cases.”
Dr. David Chen, Director of R&D Center at Moxa, highlighted the company’s deployment record: “With over 20 successful private 5G proof-of-concept and proof-of-business projects in manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics, Moxa is progressing towards deploying a private 5G network for industrial automation at a high-end manufacturing site. The CCG-1500 Series gateways enhance our OT expertise and position us to capitalize on the private 5G market opportunities in the coming years.”
In summary, the CCG-1500 Series industrial gateways offer high 5G speed, ultra-low latency, enhanced security, and dual-SIM support for redundant cellular and seamless OT-IT communications over 5G. As part of Moxa’s extensive solution portfolio, these gateways provide network interoperability, reliability, and security features to integrate 5G functionality into existing industrial networks and systems. They support global private 5G bands, serial/Ethernet-to-5G connectivity, cellular redundancy with dual-SIM support, low power consumption, compact size, and a wide operating temperature range with 5G enabled.
