Deutsche Telekom is prioritising the expansion of its international presence in the IoT sector. Its subsidiary, Deutsche Telekom IoT, has now joined the Bridge Alliance, a consortium of 35 mobile communications companies across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and, now, Europe.
Bridge Alliance provides its members with connectivity and integrated value-added services, including IoT/M2M. This partnership offers both parties significant flexibility to meet diverse customer needs in a global context. Deutsche Telekom is the first European telecoms company to become part of this alliance. The IoT subsidiary’s involvement is aligned with Deutsche Telekom’s business customer activities within T Business.
By joining Bridge Alliance, Deutsche Telekom now provides multinational corporations with streamlined access to the Asia-Pacific region (APAC). This move represents another important step in Deutsche Telekom IoT’s journey towards becoming a global connectivity provider.
“We are very pleased to now be a strong partner for the Bridge Alliance. We are pooling the know-how and technical expertise of all members. Together, we always offer our customers the best connectivity solution for their global challenge,” said Dennis Nikles, Managing Director of Deutsche Telekom IoT. “For companies from the Asian region, it is now even easier to do IoT business in Europe. This is particularly interesting for the growing market of Asian electric vehicles in Europe. But European customers also benefit. A strong global offering – all under one contract, one management and one globally standardised service.” Local partners in the countries facilitate local customer support.
One key advantage for businesses is the ability to deploy and manage IoT solutions and connected products on an international scale without needing to negotiate separate agreements with local providers. The T IoT Hub acts as the central point of contact, simplifying management processes by eliminating the need for multiple operator platforms.
Deutsche Telekom offers global connectivity through one contract, supported by a single service team and access point, facilitating easier management of all IoT connections. The streamlined procurement process also includes pre-optimised contracts, consistent global service level agreements, and a single contact point for customer support.
Adherence to local regulations is crucial for global operations, particularly in mobile communications. As various national authorities increasingly prohibit permanent roaming or restrict certain data from being transferred outside the country, it is essential to establish cooperation among providers to offer local connectivity within global contracts. This is precisely the service that Bridge Alliance and its member telecommunications companies provide.
The partnership with Bridge Alliance furthers Deutsche Telekom’s successful “network of networks” strategy. Recently, Deutsche Telekom introduced tariffs for Satellite IoT. Combined with terrestrial mobile communications through NB-IoT, LTE-M, 4G, and 5G, this now enables highly reliable hybrid global connectivity. Additionally, Deutsche Telekom has established roaming agreements with over 600 international partners and maintains a transatlantic partnership with T-Mobile in the United States.
