On 12 June 2024, Latvian mobile operator LMT, working in partnership with Lithuanian system integrator FIMA, initiated the first Lithuanian trial of the LMT transport monitoring system. This pilot, operational until 15 August 2024, grants Vilnius access to comprehensive data on traffic breaches at a designated junction in the city.
Throughout this trial period, the LMT system will monitor three specific traffic offences at this junction: red light violations, unauthorised turns, and misuse of bus lanes. The bus lane enforcement feature will identify vehicle types in the bus lane, scrutinise their registration plates, and ascertain any unapproved usage as per Lithuanian traffic regulations. This initiative marks the initial application of the system’s whitelist/blacklist capabilities on this scale.
The establishment of this trial site in Lithuania resulted from LMT’s collaboration with FIMA, marking its first venture with a local system integrator instead of direct coordination with municipal authorities.

The LMT system is similarly operational in Graz, Austria, and multiple sites across Latvia, featuring capabilities such as object detection and classification, tracking of object movement and trajectory, as well as the recognition of registration plates and traffic signals.
Incorporating advanced cameras with machine vision and edge computing, the system evaluates traffic violations locally. Detected breaches are relayed via mobile networks to servers for further analysis.
Leveraging edge computing allows for swift installation leveraging existing mobile network infrastructure, thus eliminating extensive setup requirements. The installation process is expedient, necessitating only an electrical connection, thereby minimising municipal infrastructure investment. Additionally, the system is compliant with GDPR and is compatible with both 4G and 5G networks, facilitating deployment in any city with existing mobile coverage.
