UK Connect, a provider of connectivity and IoT services to the construction and defence sectors, has appointed its Chief Technology Officer, Joe Budnar-Hunt, as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership shift as the company prepares for expansion.
Founder PJ Farr will take on the role of Executive Chairman, focusing on strategy, partnerships, and entry into new markets. Farr launched the company 13 years ago with £1,100; it has since grown into a national supplier whose technology supports housebuilders such as Taylor Wimpey, Cala Homes, and Vistry Group, as well as the Ministry of Defence.
Budnar-Hunt, who joined in 2021, has led product development, including the creation of Fusion, a multi-WAN connectivity system used across construction sites nationwide. The platform has become central to the company’s pitch that it can deliver secure, rapid-deployment connectivity in challenging or remote environments.
UK Connect’s systems also support national infrastructure, including Met Office weather stations and defence operations. The company said its services were used to connect more than 20,000 Ukrainian soldiers during Operation Interflex.
Farr said the leadership transition formed part of a long-term plan to strengthen the company as it scales: “Joe has been instrumental in shaping our technology roadmap, and has an outstanding understanding of both our customers and our markets.”
Budnar-Hunt said he aimed to build on the founder’s vision by expanding capabilities, deepening customer relationships, and accelerating growth across multiple sectors.
Founded in 2013, UK Connect provides rapid-deployment broadband, managed networks, IoT services, and field support, supplying connectivity to thousands of sites across the UK.
