Silicon Labs has recently announced that its solutions have been chosen for integration into the world’s inaugural native Matter-over-Thread smart locks. As the deployment of Matter-ready devices grows to enhance the connected home experience, companies are in search of dependable and secure solutions to hasten the launch of their Matter-compatible products.
Nuki, an Austrian manufacturer of smart locks, is incorporating Silicon Labs’ solutions in its fourth-generation Nuki Smart Lock. This device is notable for being the first smart lock to offer native Matter-over-Thread support, thereby introducing smart functionalities to European-style door knobs. Similarly, U-tec, a smart lock manufacturer based in Silicon Valley, has selected Silicon Labs’ solutions for its Ultraloq Bolt Fingerprint Matter. This product stands out as the pioneering biometric smart deadbolt lock supporting Matter-over-Thread.
Jacob Alamat, Senior Vice President for the Home and Life Business Unit at Silicon Labs, highlighted the company’s pivotal role in the IoT industry, stating: “Our Matter expertise is sought after by companies at the forefront of IoT industry trends and capabilities. As the principal code contributor to Matter among semiconductor firms, Silicon Labs possesses profound expertise, enabling our comprehensive range of leading Matter SoCs and modules, which foster robust, innovative partnerships.”
In Nuki’s fourth-generation Smart Lock, Silicon Labs’ ultra-low power Matter, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi solutions facilitate Matter-over-Thread functionality, allowing for a retrofit smart lock solution for European-style doors without the need for additional bridges or modules. Nuki’s choice of Silicon Labs’ solutions, driven by their energy efficiency, security, and reliability, underscores the importance of strong partnerships in achieving innovation in the smart home sector.
Martin Pansy, Co-Founder and CEO of Nuki, expressed the significance of their collaboration with Silicon Labs, emphasising the efficiency and reliability mirrored in their partnership.
The Silicon Labs Matter-certified MG24 SoC and EFP01 power management IC, alongside the BG22 Bluetooth SoC and the WF200 Wi-Fi transceiver, provide Nuki with the necessary components for energy-efficient mesh IoT wireless connectivity utilising Matter, OpenThread, and Zigbee protocols.
U-tec’s mission to offer innovative and user-friendly smart home solutions is supported by the security and reliability of Silicon Labs’ technology, particularly in their latest smart lock product. The Ultraloq Bolt Fingerprint Matter, powered by Silicon Labs MG24 SoC, marks a significant advancement in smart lock technology by being the first to feature biometric recognition technology with Matter-over-Thread support.
David Huang, Strategic Partner Director at U-tec, remarked on the synergy between U-tec’s mission and Silicon Labs’ leadership in Matter technology, emphasising the seamless and secure integration of connected devices into homes as a key factor for their North American customers.
The collaboration between these companies and Silicon Labs underscores the evolving landscape of smart home technology, with secure, high-performance solutions at the forefront of innovation.
