Digi International, a US-based Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity provider, has announced that it has shipped more than 25 million of its XBee wireless modules, underscoring the widespread adoption of its technology across industries from space exploration to smart cities.
The modules, which support a range of protocols including Zigbee, DigiMesh, LoRaWAN, LTE-M/NB-IoT, Bluetooth Low Energy, and the newly introduced Wi-SUN standard, are designed to provide reliable wireless connectivity in both consumer and industrial applications. The company said the milestone reflects the trust of its customer base in deploying large-scale, connected systems.
The XBee ecosystem now includes Digi XBee Hive gateways, which offer LTE, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet connectivity combined with edge computing capabilities. Customers can manage deployments remotely via Digi Remote Manager, a cloud platform for configuration, fleet monitoring, and device lifecycle management.
Digi said the modules are in use across a broad array of applications, from utility-scale solar farms optimising energy capture to agricultural companies such as Origo.ag and IRROMETER using XBee for weather monitoring and precision irrigation. Other deployments include autonomous robotic mowers, drone fleet coordination, smart street lighting networks, and personal e-mobility tracking.
Founded in 1985, Digi International has connected more than 100 million devices globally and continues to expand its footprint in the IoT market.
