At CES 2024, Honeywell and NXP Semiconductors announced their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding to optimise energy consumption in commercial buildings. This partnership aligns with global concerns about energy usage, as the International Energy Agency reports that building operations contribute significantly to global energy consumption and emissions. Modern smart energy solutions are increasingly adopting machine learning and data analytics to improve building autonomy and energy efficiency.
The collaboration will enhance the operation of buildings by integrating NXP Semiconductors’ neural network-enabled industrial-grade applications processors into Honeywell’s building management systems. Initially focusing on Honeywell’s Optimizer Suite, this partnership aims to create a more adaptable and future-ready building control and automation platform.
The partnership’s broader objectives include delivering AI/machine learning-powered smart energy solutions to boost building autonomy and energy efficiency. This involves utilising NXP’s neural network-enabled chipset capabilities to advance Honeywell’s building management system products.
Suresh Venkatarayalu, Chief Technology Officer at Honeywell, highlighted the increasing reliance on data and automation for sustainable and efficient building operations. The integration of NXP’s machine learning solutions is expected to elevate Honeywell’s building automation capabilities.
Lars Reger, Chief Technology Officer at NXP Semiconductors, emphasised the growing need to enhance the sustainability and comfort of smart buildings. NXP’s secure, connected processing solutions, supported by tools for AI model development and IoT device management, will complement Honeywell’s expertise in building management, marking a significant step towards creating a smarter and more connected world.
Honeywell plans to build upon NXP’s scalable semiconductor and software solutions to enable real-time monitoring, learning, and adaptation. This will enhance analytics and decision-making capabilities within the building management systems. Augmented by Honeywell Forge’s cloud-based big data analytics, the collaboration aims to leverage insights for optimised energy usage, thus improving sustainability outcomes.
