Homey, the Dutch smart home platform owned by LG Electronics, has released a lower-cost version of its flagship hub as it seeks to broaden its appeal in an increasingly competitive connected-home market.
The Homey Pro mini, unveiled today in Enschede, is now available globally at €249 via the company’s website, with wider retail distribution expected in the coming months. The device offers the core functionality of the higher-priced Homey Pro, but in a smaller form factor and without reliance on Cloud services.
Stefan Witkamp, Chief Executive of Athom — the company behind Homey — said many households still found advanced smart home hubs “either too expensive or too complex”. The Pro mini, he said, aimed to bring powerful automation and a privacy-first design to the UK and other markets “at a price that makes sense”.
The hub supports key industry standards, including Ethernet, Zigbee, Thread, and Matter, and runs the same operating system as the full-size Pro. Users can connect devices from more than 1,000 brands, build automations using Flow and Advanced Flow, create dashboards, and access energy-tracking and advanced developer-focused tools.
Powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core ARMv8 processor with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, the Pro mini can run roughly 20 Homey apps — a level that Athom notes exceeds typical usage patterns among existing Pro customers. The full-size Pro continues to target more complex installations, supporting over 60 apps and offering integrated radios not present in the mini.
Connectivity can be expanded through the €69 Homey Bridge, which adds Z-Wave, Bluetooth LE, 433 MHz, and Infrared support, and extends Zigbee coverage through Satellite Mode.
Athom, founded in 2014 and acquired by LG Electronics in 2024, has positioned Homey as a universal smart home ecosystem, with more than 1,000 integrations available in its App Store.
