A new entrant to the smart home market is promising to give houseplants a voice. Plant With Willow, a UK-based start-up, has launched an intelligent plant-care system that uses sensors and data analysis to monitor the wellbeing of indoor greenery, offering real-time insights through a companion app.
The system centres on a compact soil sensor that records key environmental metrics, including moisture, light, temperature, humidity, and nutritional health. Data are transmitted to the Willow app, which interprets the readings and provides alerts and care recommendations to users.
Through the app, owners receive notifications when a plant requires watering, along with post-watering feedback to help fine-tune routines. The platform also offers fertiliser guidance and nutritional analysis, using trends in soil readings to detect when nutrient levels are low or when a plant is struggling to absorb minerals effectively.
Willow’s sensor measures light intensity every minute, enabling users to optimise plant placement within their homes. Built-in temperature and humidity monitoring helps identify adverse environmental changes, while each plant is assigned a “happiness score” — a summary indicator of its overall health.
The Willow Starter Pack, which includes one sensor and a central hub, is available now via the company’s website, plantwithwillow.co.uk. The hub connects to the app and can support up to 40 sensors, allowing users to scale up their monitoring network as their plant collections expand.
Targeted at both casual plant owners and enthusiasts, Plant With Willow aims to simplify indoor gardening by transforming how people interact with their plants — using data to replace intuition with precision.
