NXP Semiconductors has announced that its Trimension Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology is enabling a new class of precision medical delivery drones developed by Swiss start-up Jedsy.
The Jedsy X drone is the first in the world capable of docking directly at windows or balconies, promising faster, more convenient delivery of essential medical supplies to homes, hospitals, and clinics.
Designed to improve the speed and accessibility of critical healthcare logistics, Jedsy’s drones rely on NXP’s Trimension SR150 UWB chipset to pinpoint their exact location in real time. This allows the aircraft to perform precise manoeuvres, such as landing on the side of multi-storey buildings in densely populated urban areas.
“UWB-based location and motion tracking offer unrivalled precision, security, and accuracy for medical applications,” said Jérôme Legros, Vice President of Secure Embedded Transactions at NXP. “With Jedsy’s drones, this means medical supplies can be delivered exactly where they are needed — even to a hospital window. Beyond logistics, UWB has potential in monitoring patients’ vital signs in real time or tracking critical hospital equipment.”
Jedsy’s Chief Executive, Christian Bredemeier, said the company’s mission is to ensure life-saving treatments reach patients wherever they are. “UWB technology gives the Jedsy X the precision to land where it’s needed — whether that’s a rural village or a city centre balcony,” he said.
The Trimension SR150 forms part of NXP’s broader UWB portfolio, which spans automotive, mobile, and IoT markets. The technology employs short-range radar and secure ranging to determine precise positioning and motion. These capabilities are being explored in healthcare settings for applications such as patient monitoring, asset tracking, and access control.
NXP, which operates in more than 30 countries, reported revenue of $12.61 billion in 2024.
