British wireless semiconductor company RANsemi announced the launch of RNS805-RU-BB, a fully integrated baseband board designed to simplify and accelerate the development of 5G/4G Open RAN Radio Units (O-RUs). Supporting Split 7.2 architectures and all 5G FR1 bands from 600 MHz to 6 GHz, the board is designed for manufacturers and system integrators developing next-generation O-RUs for complex multi-band, multi-operator deployments.
The RNS805-RU-BB combines RANsemi’s RNS805 O-RU SoC with the AFE7769D 4T4R multi-band analogue front-end radio frequency (RF) transceiver solution from Texas Instruments, offering a compact and flexible baseband platform that integrates seamlessly with various RF front-end modules. Designed to support everything from indoor small cells to outdoor macro units, the 165mm by 170mm board provides a complete Cat A Split 7.2 baseband solution with integrated digital pre-distortion (DPD), GNSS/IEEE1588/SyncE timing synchronisation, and support for both TDD and FDD modes.

The board is optimised for practical deployment scenarios, including 4T4R small cell operation with 200MHz occupied bandwidth, three-carrier aggregation using 300MHz instantaneous bandwidth, and dual-band configurations such as 2T2R in TDD paired with 2T2R in FDD.

The board supports eCPRI fronthaul through SFP28 for 10/25GE or 10GE copper Ethernet and includes discrete RF front-end interfaces for flexible power amplifier configurations across deployment types. It provides RJ45 and USB debug interfaces, supporting both Power over Ethernet and 12V auxiliary power. The RNS805-RU-BB includes a complete 5G NR and LTE radio unit software licence with full management, control, synchronisation, and user-plane functions.
Engineered for both standalone deployment and dual-board cascading for more complex radio units, the RNS805-RU-BB is available now for lab testing and commercial implementations.
