Paragon ID is pleased to announce the official launch of its XgenTag range (XgenTag-L and XgenTag-R) — two cutting-edge, battery-free Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tags, designed to enhance asset tracking in logistics, healthcare and industrial environments.
Unlike traditional tracking systems that rely on batteries or costly infrastructure, XgenTag offers a unique approach — fully energy-autonomous, smartphone-readable, and built for scalability. It brings together energy harvesting, BLE compatibility, and plug-and-play deployment, offering an unmatched blend of simplicity, sustainability and scalability.
These tags will be presented for the first time at VivaTech 2025, running from 13-14 June in Paris, France.
Paragon ID introduces two complementary tags to address a wide range of traceability needs — both energy-autonomous and Bluetooth-enabled.
XgenTag-L utilises an Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) surface to harvest ambient light and power its BLE chip. It functions in lighting conditions ranging from 5 lux (near-darkness) to 40,000+ lux (full direct sunlight), transmitting BLE signals as often as every second in bright conditions. Tags are readable by any smartphone or BLE-compatible reader, eliminating the need for costly dedicated readers.
This makes it a suitable solution for applications such as continuous inventory, exposed supply chains, smart retail, asset search and retrieval as well as industrial and logistics flow optimisation.
XgenTag-R harnesses UHF RFID energy harvesting to power its BLE module. It activates when in range (up to 25 metres) of a standard RFID reader or a low cost RF energisation module, making it the perfect solution for non-visible or enclosed assets.
It is especially well suited for hidden equipment inventory, enclosed medical transport and secure storage and logistics. Its discreet design is suited to applications where visibility, space, or accessibility are all constrained.
Both tags connect to a companion application (APK), which detects BLE signals within a 50+ metre range, filters by type and proximity, and transmits data via MQTT to Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or other platforms. The open architecture ensures no vendor lock-in, providing businesses with full control over their data strategy. The system architecture is fully open, enabling seamless integration with existing infrastructures without dependence on proprietary platforms.
With XgenTag-L and XgenTag-R, Paragon ID introduces a new class of energy-autonomous, maintenance-free, and cost-efficient tags that are scalable across a wide range of applications — from Industry 4.0 and retail to healthcare and airport operations.
XgenTag is a next generation IoT tracking solution powered by energy harvesting that brings many advantages:
- No battery, no maintenance – over 10 years lifespan
- Fast deployment – no special infrastructure required
- Smartphone-readable – APK provided
- Low total cost of ownership (TCO)
- Modular and future-ready – standalone or integrated deployments
