GL.iNet has announced the launch of its Red Dot Design award-winning Slate 7(GL-BE3600), next-generation dual-band Wi-Fi 7 travel router.
The Slate 7 delivers high-speed wireless and wired networking for demanding applications like 4K and 8K streaming, and video conferencing software.
Leveraging the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology, the GL.iNet Slate 7 is designed to offer users lightning-fast connectivity speeds of up to 688Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 2882Mbps on the 5GHz band. This provides users with stable, reliable, higher-speed, lower latency performance, even in crowded areas.
For travellers, the Slate 7 addresses common pain points such as slow speeds and interruptions, particularly in high-traffic locations including airports, hotels, or homes with multiple connected devices.
With Power Delivery (PD) compatibility, allowing for flexible power options, the Slate 7 ensures a seamless online experience making it a convenient travel companion for professionals on the go. The device enables users to stay connected on the go, without the burden of bulky power supplies.
The Slate 7 features a Qualcomm quad-core CPU running at 1.1GHz and two foldable external antennas that enhance signal coverage, making it one of the best small business routers for both mobility and home networking.
Weighing just 295g, this lightweight mobile router includes a 2.5Gbps WAN port and a 2.5Gbps LAN port for stable wired performance in bandwidth-intensive tasks.
With its dual 2.5G Ethernet ports, each capable of over 2.3Gbps broadband throughput, the Slate 7 can also function as an ideal network switch solution for users who require reliable wired connections alongside advanced wireless capabilities. It includes 512MB of flash memory, 1GB of high-performance DDR4 RAM, and a USB 3.0 port for external storage or modem use, enabling smooth multitasking and expanded functionality as needed.
Powered by advanced OFDMA technology, the Slate 7 optimises bandwidth by efficiently allocating resources across multiple devices, ensuring seamless data transmission with minimal latency while supporting over 120 devices simultaneously, without sacrificing performance.
Pre-installed with OpenVPN at up to 100Mbps and WireGuard at up to 540Mbps, Slate 7 has secure and fast connections for remote work or private browsing. However, its integrating compatibility with over 30 VPN services also delivers extensive security options. Enhanced WPA3 security gives users stronger encryption, making it harder for any would-be malicious actors to intercept communications, which in itself means all-round better protection for personal data and devices.
Running OpenWrt 23.05 (Kernel 5.4.213), the Slate 7 is an open-source platform for advanced networking customisation, enabling users to install advanced plugins for security, traffic monitoring, and network management. Compact and travel-friendly for even easier portability, the Slate 7 is the ideal companion for professionals, travellers, and remote workers who need fast, reliable, and secure Internet access anywhere they are.
This level of flexibility allows IT professionals, power users, and enterprise environments to tailor their networking experience for enhanced security and performance. Whether fine-tuning network traffic, optimising VPN setups, or deploying custom security protocols, the Slate 7 ensures seamless control over networking operations, making it an ideal solution for demanding applications.
It also features an interactive touchscreen to simplify users’ connectivity experience, for instant Wi-Fi connections, monitoring real-time speeds, toggling VPN on/off, and switching between preferred VPN providers – all directly from the display. The touchscreen also provides instant network status updates through colour-coded indicators for Ethernet, Tethering, Repeater, and Cellular modes. This means users are not limited to just Wi-Fi connections, as the Slate 7 ensures smarter, more efficient network management, supporting repeater, tethering, and cellular tethering modes. This makes it the ultimate tool for tech-savvy travellers and professionals alike.
Alfie Zhao, Co-Founder and CTO, GL.iNet commented: “The launch of our Red Dot Design Award-winning Slate 7 represents GL.iNet’s commitment to reimagining connectivity for today’s mobile professionals. We designed the Slate 7 to address the real-world challenges faced by travellers and remote workers who need reliable, secure, and lightning-fast connections wherever they go.
“By integrating Wi-Fi 7 technology with an intuitive touchscreen interface in such a compact design, we’re not just launching another router, we are delivering a connectivity solution that will empower users to stay productive and connected in every environment. The Slate 7 embodies our vision of making advanced networking technology accessible, user-friendly, and perfectly adapted to the demands of an ever-increasing mobile world.”
