Geotab has announced a partnership with Volkswagen Group Info Services (VW GIS), a key provider of multi-brand data products within the Volkswagen Group. This collaboration marks a significant step in expanding Geotab’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) network. By integrating high-quality data from Volkswagen Group’s multi-brand vehicle fleets with the Geotab platform, fleet operators will gain access to advanced telematics and connected mobility without the need for retrofitting.
With customer consent, built-in vehicle sensors in Volkswagen Group fleet vehicles collect data, which is then transferred to the Geotab platform through an application programming interface (API). Geotab’s platform simplifies the collection and processing of this data, offering detailed analysis and actionable insights while ensuring privacy and security. The integration guarantees that all data is securely transmitted and stored in a Geotab-controlled database, allowing fleet owners full oversight. This smart data can help businesses involved in vehicle leasing, last-mile delivery, enterprise, utility, and mobility services to make near real-time decisions regarding productivity and regulatory compliance.
“With the Volkswagen Group Info Services partnership, we are able to reach out and cater to a wider customer base who are in search of fleet management solutions via native telematics. Integrations with famous brands from the Volkswagen Group portfolio enables us to further strengthen customer trust,” said Christoph Ludewig, Vice President, Europe OEM and Leasing/Rental/Mobility, Geotab.
“But Geotab isn’t the only one winning: The Volkswagen Group Info Services integration offers many advantages for both OEMs and customers alike as OEMs do not have to build and maintain their own technology stack for data processing, analysis and visualisation. Instead, the customer seamlessly feeds their data into the telematics platform via the Cloud-to-Cloud using APIs. Customers still receive all OEM-specific data points including those from other OEMs in the context of a multi brand fleet ㅡ optimally processed and integrated with other fleet data to provide a 360-degree view of their fleets.”
The MyGeotab platform now includes vehicle-generated data from multiple manufacturers, including Volkswagen Group (VW, Audi, Škoda, CUPRA, Seat), BMW-Mini Group, Renault, Dacia, Ford, all Stellantis brands, and Mercedes-Benz, in addition to Geotab’s own telematic devices. The platform’s analytics also support sustainability initiatives and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements. For instance, fleet managers can optimise routes, improve fuel efficiency, identify electrification opportunities, enhance safety, and reduce idling. MyGeotab processes this data into detailed insights, giving fleet managers a clearer understanding of their operations.
“We are excited to partner with Geotab to deliver advanced telematics to fleet operators across Europe. By integrating vehicle generated data from Volkswagen Group produced vehicles with Geotab’s solutions, we empower fleet managers to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability, enabling near real-time decisions without extra hardware,” said Patricia Stich, Chairwoman VW Group Info Services.
The integrated Geotab solution for VW Group Info Services AG will be available from September 2024 across a range of countries, including Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and many others in Europe.
