Mouser Electronics, a global distributor of electronic components and industrial automation products, is now stocking the XPLR-IOT-1 Explorer kit from u-blox. The XPLR-IOT-1 offers a comprehensive platform for developing proof-of-concept IoT applications for sensor networks, environmental control, medical devices, smart appliances, lighting applications, and more.
The u-blox XPLR-IOT-1, available through Mouser, includes all components necessary for immediate use, including an embedded SIM with u-blox MQTT Anywhere and MQTT Now trial accounts, facilitating connection to the Thingstream IoT service delivery platform. With minimal initial setup, the kit can publish data to the Cloud, providing a complete end-to-end solution.
The XPLR-IOT-1 features a dual-core Arm Cortex-M33 application microcontroller with clock frequencies up to 128/64 MHz, 512 + 64 kB RAM, and 1024 + 256 kB flash memory. It supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE-M/NB-IoT cellular communication for global network compatibility. A dedicated low-power GNSS receiver ensures accurate positioning data, while the available nano SIM slot allows connection with a network operator of choice.
The XPLR-IOT-1 kit employs the MQTT-SN protocol for efficient power and data communication to the Thingstream platform. Alternatively, the built-in Wi-Fi module and u-blox MQTT Now service provide a different route to the Cloud. The kit comes pre-flashed with application software, available as source code, which collects sensor and positioning data for the Thingstream platform.
The data flow manager processes the information for the Node-RED programming example, allowing quick and easy dashboard visualisation. The device is powered by the Nordic Semiconductor nRF5340 wireless system-on-chip (SoC) in the NORA-B1 wireless MCU module, which can host custom applications developed with the Nordic nRF Connect SDK or the Zephyr development environment. This device includes integrated sensors for temperature, humidity, pressure, ambient light, magnetometer, gyroscope, accelerometer, and battery gauge.
