Qt Group and Qualcomm Technologies have joined forces to enhance the development of advanced graphical user interfaces (GUI) and software quality assurance for industrial IoT devices.
The collaboration between Qt’s cross-platform development tools and Qualcomm Technologies’ expertise empowers IoT manufacturers to accelerate the release of their devices to market.
Qualcomm Technologies, renowned as one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, has a longstanding reputation for devices in industries including smartphones, automobiles, Extended Reality and IoT.
Integrating Qt Group’s platform with Qualcomm Technologies’ software significantly streamlines the development and testing of UI solutions, facilitating the process for software vendors. It also facilitates the rapid and efficient creation of Systems on Modules (SoM) by hardware vendors, enabling the production of embedded electronic devices ranging from robots to security cameras.
In addition to enhancing UI capabilities, OEMs accessing Qualcomm Technologies’ processors that support Qt gain access to Qt Group’s intuitive software development and quality assurance tools. This accessibility significantly reduces production barriers for manufacturers.
“When you tune out the noise surrounding tech innovation today, what is it really at the end of the day that impacts end users the most? It’s the user experience – specifically the user interface,” said Roger Mazzella, Senior Product Manager at Qt Group. “At Qt Group, our team has been proud to collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies in the automotive industry over the years. Now, we get to expand the benefits of all that groundwork to the IoT market, to which Qualcomm Technologies is well suited. Their high-powered processors handle data-heavy communication while providing ultra-fast performance that developers and end users expect.”
“The benefit of Qt’s technologies is that they already have a history of implementation across 70 industries,” commented Juhapekka Niemi, Senior Vice President, Product Management at Qt Group. “We will give hardware and software vendors for IoT the UI/UX development and QA tools they need right out of the box. Since these vendors don’t have to perform any integrations themselves, the ease of developing GUIs significantly cuts down the time it takes to launch their products.”
By leveraging Qt’s development tools and framework, IoT manufacturers can incorporate advanced 3D graphics capabilities into their device’s UI in a more streamlined manner. Unlike other frameworks, such as game engines, which often include unnecessary features for IoT GUI creation, the Qt framework is tailored specifically to these devices. This tailored approach enables developers to operate UIs on hardware with lower requirements.
Qt Group’s suite of tools for designing, developing, and ensuring product quality aims to foster closer collaboration between developers and designers. This approach streamlines workflows, allowing them to work seamlessly within the same framework. These tools are particularly well-suited for cross-platform development, especially for low-powered and embedded devices.
“At Qualcomm Technologies, we strongly believe in building an industry ecosystem that allows manufacturers to create excellent hardware and software solutions for vertical markets using our chipsets,” concluded Manvinder Singh, Vice President of Strategy and Partner Solutions Development of IoT, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “This collaboration gives developers a ready-made solution to build their creative solutions on top of.”
