Nordic Semiconductor has received the Cloud Computing Innovation of the Year award at the 2025 Mobile Breakthrough Awards for its nRF Cloud powered by Memfault platform, marking a milestone in the company’s strategic expansion from chip design to full-stack wireless solutions.
The platform integrates Memfault’s observability and over-the-air (OTA) infrastructure directly into Nordic’s established nRF Cloud ecosystem. The result is a comprehensive device observability, management, and location services platform designed to simplify how developers monitor, maintain, and update connected devices across large-scale deployments.
Nordic’s acquisition of Memfault earlier this year was a pivotal step in its evolution from a hardware-focused firm to an end-to-end provider of wireless connectivity solutions, spanning from silicon to cloud.
“Our recognition at the Mobile Breakthrough Awards underscores Nordic’s transformation into a full chip-to-cloud solution partner,” said Øyvind Birkenes, Executive Vice President of Long-Range at Nordic Semiconductor. “It reflects our commitment to supporting customers not only with best-in-class wireless System-on-Chip technology, but also with embedded software and cloud lifecycle services.”
The nRF Cloud powered by Memfault platform provides developers with out-of-the-box access to remote diagnostics, fleet health monitoring, and secure device updates.
It supports Nordic’s full portfolio of wireless products, including the nRF91 Series of cellular IoT modules, and the multiprotocol nRF54, nRF53, and nRF52 Series SoCs. Users can integrate the platform at no cost and scale their deployments efficiently as needs grow.
Birkenes added, “This award gives our customers confidence to build cloud-connected IoT products using Nordic technology. We are dedicated to making that journey simpler, faster, more power-efficient, and more secure throughout every stage of the product lifecycle.”
Now in its ninth year, the Mobile Breakthrough Awards, organised by market intelligence firm Tech Breakthrough, recognise innovation and excellence across the mobile, wireless, and telecommunications industries. Winners are selected by an independent panel based on criteria including innovation, performance, user experience, and market impact.
