Plume, a US-based smart home connectivity company, has joined RDK Management as a Preferred Plus Member to help develop and enhance the open-source broadband platform RDK-B through software contributions and technical collaboration.
Under the agreement, Plume will contribute software code, technical expertise, and operational insight to support the continued evolution of RDK-B. The company said its input would be informed by its work with hundreds of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and data from more than 500 million connected devices.
The move marks a shift in Plume’s strategy towards greater openness and collaboration with the broadband industry. It is intended to help ISPs deliver better-managed home Wi-Fi performance and customer support, as competition intensifies and in-home networks become more complex.
“RDK closely aligns with Plume’s mission to deliver a smart and frictionless end-to-end experience for ISPs and their subscribers,” said Chris Griffiths, Plume’s Chief Technology Officer. “The future will not be defined by bandwidth and speeds, but by winning on features and customer experience.”
Plume’s engineers will work directly with RDK developers to enhance broadband device management capabilities and promote interoperability across hardware and software platforms. The company also plans to support broader industry adoption of RDK-B through technical collaboration and outreach.
Jason Briggs, President and General Manager of RDK Management, said Plume’s involvement would strengthen the platform’s technical foundation. “Plume is well-recognised for its pioneering adaptive Wi-Fi management,” he said. “Given its experience with hundreds of operators around the world, we expect their contributions to have a meaningful impact on the future of RDK-B.”
RDK (Reference Design Kit) is an open-source software platform that standardises core broadband and video functions in customer premises equipment. Managed by RDK Management, a joint venture between Comcast, Liberty Global, and Charter Communications, it has been deployed in more than 200 million devices and is supported by over 700 companies across the broadband supply chain.
Founded in 2016, Plume created the first managed Wi-Fi platform for ISPs. Its cloud-based software enables operators to monitor and optimise in-home connectivity, improve network performance, and deliver personalised digital services. The company’s technology supports open frameworks such as OpenSync and RDK-B, enabling flexible, modular deployments across a range of hardware and Cloud environments.
