Softil Innovative Communications, a provider of enabling technologies for multimedia over IP communication solutions, has released updated versions of its developer tools: SIP Toolkit 7.7, ARTP Toolkit 4.8, and the NAT Traversal (ICE, TURN, STUN) Toolkit version 3.5. These tools are central to thousands of unified communications deployments worldwide, enabling developers to create high-quality, standards-compliant solutions that integrate advanced transport capabilities and proven interoperability.
The latest release of Softil’s Toolkits offers enhanced reliability, performance, and interoperability, with support for the newest versions of open standards. It also introduces various new features, particularly focused on strengthening security and cybersecurity—an area of increasing concern in digital communications.
The landscape of digital communications faces growing security challenges. To address these, the US Department of Defense (DoD) introduced the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), which aims to mitigate such threats. Central to the CMMC is the use of cryptography that complies with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) FIPS standards. FIPS-compliant cryptography is also mandated by other frameworks such as FedRAMP, StateRAMP, Common Criteria, and the Commercial National Security Algorithm (CNSA) Suite 2.0.
Approximately 250,000 organisations identified as part of the DoD’s defence industrial base (DIB), handling controlled unclassified information (CUI) and federal contract information (FCI), are required to utilise FIPS-compliant cryptographic solutions.
OpenSSL serves as the default TLS and cryptography engine for the majority of secure commercial communications, used in hundreds of thousands of products globally. OpenSSL 3.0, the latest version, has replaced the now unsupported OpenSSL 1.0. When combined with the FIPS provider, OpenSSL forms the core of several key security frameworks.
Softil’s updated Toolkits now include full support for OpenSSL 3.0, significantly enhancing the security of all solutions built using its tools. This enables developers to meet the growing demand from communication network operators for secure communication solutions, suitable for use in both government and commercial sectors.
“For the past 25 years, Softil’s engineers have provided the key enabling technologies for IP communications’ developers to bring the best products and services to market in the shortest timeframe at the lowest cost,” said Pierre Hagendorf, CEO, Softil. “With these latest updates to Softil’s toolkits, Softil Toolkits customers, global developers and vendors of IP communications solutions can now enhance current offerings, retain competitiveness and ensure compliance to the latest standards and critical requirements.”
