Rohde & Schwarz has successfully completed the re-certification of its EU eCall test solution, carried out by the independent testing body cetecom advanced. This milestone highlights the dedication of both companies to delivering standards-compliant, next-generation eCall test solutions.
The recently introduced eCall Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/1180, which came into effect on 9th May 2024, includes updates for 2G and 3G circuit-switched (CS) eCall. In response, Rohde & Schwarz has enhanced its R&S CMW-KA094 eCall end-to-end (E2E) conformance test solution to ensure it aligns with the latest eCall standards, including EN 16454:2023. This upgrade allows manufacturers and suppliers to meet the new regulatory requirements, ensuring smooth integration of in-vehicle eCall systems (IVS).
The re-certification by cetecom advanced confirms that the R&S CMW-KA094 eCall test software, which simulates a public safety answering point (PSAP), is fully compliant with requirements for processing eCalls, receiving emergency data, and interacting with in-vehicle systems. This provides manufacturers and suppliers using the Rohde & Schwarz solution with a distinct advantage during acceptance tests for their emergency call systems, reinforcing Rohde & Schwarz’s commitment to delivering reliable and comprehensive eCall testing solutions.
Rohde & Schwarz and cetecom advanced have also agreed to continue their partnership, working together to develop a standards-compliant test solution for next-generation eCall using 4G and 5G network infrastructure for laboratory testing. As a designated technical service for eCall, cetecom advanced supports the latest revisions of relevant next-generation eCall standards from CEN (e.g. EN 17240, EN 17184, and EN 16072) and brings extensive experience in eCall testing, certification, and standardisation.
The test solution is built around the R&S CMX500, a comprehensive 4G/5G radio communication tester, which has been selected by cetecom advanced for their laboratory as the platform for next-generation eCall conformance tests. The R&S CMX500 offers features such as an internal IMS server with MSD via SIP support, VoLTE/VoNR testing for eCall services, as well as advanced IP and application test capabilities.
With the collaborative verification of the R&S CMX-KA098 next-generation eCall test software by Rohde & Schwarz and cetecom advanced, customers gain access to a test solution that meets the latest CEN standards for next-generation eCall. This will support the automotive industry as it prepares for the mandatory adoption of next-generation eCall technology, required for all vehicles supplied to the European market from 2026.
