Optical satellite communication is moving from experimental trials to large-scale industrial deployment, positioning itself as a potential multi-billion-dollar market over the next decade, according to a new report by Yole Group.
The consultancy’s Optical Satellite Communication 2025 report provides an in-depth assessment of the technologies, markets, and players shaping the sector, covering optical terminals, devices, ground systems, and the integration of quantum technologies into satellite networks.
Eric Mounier, Chief Analyst at Yole Group, said: “Optical satellite communication is entering its industrial phase. What was once experimental is now scaling at the constellation level, with thousands of terminals, standardized interfaces, and ground networks built for global reach.”
The report highlights the rapid expansion of satellite constellations, the densification of ground networks, and advances in device integration and quantum-readiness, signalling a shift towards industrialisation, standardisation, and strategic investment in the sector.
Yole Group predicts that these trends will underpin robust market growth through 2030, with optical satellite communications increasingly seen as a cornerstone of next-generation global connectivity infrastructure.
